In The Beginning
Mr. Mac's trade warehouse had closed for the night. It had been a long day, the staff clocked off and the manager locked up and set the alarm. All was quiet and nothing moved in aisles which were thoroughfares for operatives to locate and collect goods that had been ordered. Around midnight, there was a flicker of light in the gardening section. It was time for the small discussion group to assemble. The agenda tonight was the same as every night, put the world to rights and discuss the future.
There were the four regulars, Billy Bucket, Gordon Gnome, Samuel Spade, and Solomon Shopper. All were housed in the same department, but they had various functions and completely different outlooks on life. Gordon was the mischievous one, whilst Billy was prone to collapsing with a fit of the giggles. Samuel was very serious and wanted to emigrate to the U.S.A. Solomon was just Solomon and went wherever he was directed. These four different characters made for lively meetings with plenty of banter and repartee.
The talk on this night was concentrated on the future and where they would spend the next phase of their lives. Gordon saw himself in a well-stocked garden along with other figures. Billy thought he would be useful in helping people of mature years. Samuel fancied himself as a detective solving crimes. Solomon was just happy with any eventuality. The meeting ended cordially with all realising that they would soon be moving out and probably never see each other again.
Solomon was bought by an online mail-order company and finished up the household of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and was destined for adventures. Samuel was transferred to the gardening department of a large DIY store, and Billy ‘s next stop was being part of the stock in a small convenience shop before being purchased by a couple who needed help in their garden.. Gordon found himself in a large bargain store and did live for a time in a garden.
Times change and a new discussion group were formed in the warehouse garden section. Willie Wheelbarrow was accepted as a leader because he was the most mobile. He was joined by Tommy Tree lopper, Yorick Yard brush, and Roger Riddle.
